How do I get in to college?

There are several things you must do to get into a college or university.  The earlier you start the better.

• Review for your college exams.  Check with your school counselor for review materials.
  
  

• Take college entrance exams.  Some schools require the SAT while others want the ACT.  It’s a good idea to plan to take the tests a couple of times so you can choose your better score.
  
  

• Apply to the school of your choice and at least one additional school.  In Texas there is one application for all universities.  For the community colleges, you will have to do their individual application.  You should do this in the fall of your senior year.  Ask for help and put everything you’ve done in your application.  The more stuff the better!
  
  

• Many schools require you to write an essay.  It’s a good idea to have your English teacher or parents review your essay before sending it in.  Here’s a funny example of one done by a real overachiever!
  
  

• Apply for financial assistance.  Your first step will be to fill out the single application.  Then you can begin to explore other options.
